It did not speak for my daughter.
It did not replace her voice.
It simply made it much harder for anyone to pretend that what she described had never happened.
And that became the lesson I carried forward.
Sometimes the most important thing you can do for a child is not make a perfect speech, find the perfect punishment, or promise that nothing bad will ever happen again.
Sometimes it is much simpler.
When they finally find the courage to tell you they’re afraid, believe them enough to stop everything and listen.
My daughter never needed me to undo that night.
I couldn’t.
She needed me to make sure it wasn’t repeated.
And this time, I did.
